Checklist for Commercial Building Maintenance

When you own commercial property, a lot can go on in your building when you’re not there. Having a regular maintenance schedule helps you keep on top of things. Here are some items to include on your standard checklist.

Inspect Fire System

Your fire system is your main line of defense against extensive fire damage. If the fire marshal finds a problem during the inspection, call a fire sprinkler repair company Orange County California, to take care of it as soon as possible.

Check Lights

Good lighting is important for both security and morale. Check all light bulbs frequently and have any that have burned out replaced.

Change Filters

Your HVAC system helps regulate the temperature and the humidity level in your building. Change air filters on the system on a regular basis. If you have a water filtration system, you also want to make sure those filters are working properly.

Test Detectors

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors alert you when there is a problem that could directly affect the health or safety of your employees. Check them once a month to ensure they’re working. Replace batteries as needed.

Look for Leaks

A water leak can come from many places. Roof damage, foundation problems or leaking pipes can all cause water loss. Check your building for signs of leaks and the subsequent damage they cause so that you can hire remediation experts before it gets out of control.

Secure Doors and Windows

You want to make sure your building is protected from intruders, so it makes sense to confirm that doors and windows are secure. Check locks, and replace any that are broken.

A big part of your responsibility as a property owner is making sure your building remains safe and structurally sound. A solid checklist and a regular maintenance schedule help you do that.
